If you are looking for a place to get affordable homemade cooking, great service, and a cozy family atmosphere, look no further than Woodee’s Diner on Washington Avenue.

Woodee’s is owned and operated by Andy & Debbie Hubka, who opened the original Woodee’s Diner in Beatrice, Nebraska in 1998. After successfully opening multiple locations in Nebraska, as well as one in Debbie’s hometown of Yazoo City, Mississippi, they sold the businesses and ended up picking Ocean Springs for their latest, and what they say will be their last, location.

Opened this past June, the Hubka’s decided on Ocean Springs after accidentally getting off on Exit 50 while searching the entire Gulf Coast for the ideal spot. Falling in love with the area, they decided it would be the perfect place to serve their family recipes.

"Nothing that we buy is pre-cooked,” said Andy about his fresh offerings. "We serve large portions of food at a good price.”

Woodee’s specializes in a homestyle menu, with nice variety of breakfast items such as eggs, pancakes, French toast, biscuits & gravy, and omelets that are available all day.

On my visit I had their amazing signature Woodee’s Omelet. Consisting of three eggs, mushrooms, onions, sausage, swiss cheese, and the unique twist of stuffing hash browns inside the omelet that he learned from his father, it makes for a fantastic combination of flavors.

Woodee’s is also a great place for lunch, having daily small and large plate specials Monday through Friday. They feature two meats a day, with favorites such as country fried chicken breast on Mondays, chicken fried steak on Tuesdays, pork chops on Wednesdays, hamburger steak with mushrooms on Thursdays, and Simmons farmed raised catfish on Fridays.

Besides the popular specials, they also have salads, sandwiches, and Woodee’s Famous Burgers, which come in either a quarter or a half pound on a gourmet bun. For those with a big appetite, you may want to try The Big Wood, which they claim is the biggest burger on the Coast.  I wasn’t quite hungry enough for one whole pound of beef with grilled ham & cheese on each patty during my visit, but I have already made plans to come back to see if I can conquer it.

Woodee’s Diner is open six days a week. Monday through Thursday from 6am to 2pm, Saturday from 6am to 11am, and are closed on Sundays. They have a kids menu that can be ordered from at any age, and be sure to like "Woodees Ocean Springs” on Facebook to see the ever-changing daily specials.
