Located on Government Street in Ocean Springs, John & Marie Pleasant opened the family owned and operated restaurant in 1984, with son Michael taking over operations full-time in 1992. Twenty-five years later, Michael is still working hard to bring quality food to his customers at an affordable price.

"Everything is homemade,” Michael said of all its food being made in-house. "We don’t get anything off delivery trucks other than our fresh produce. None of the pre-made stuff that some places get shipped in. We peel the potatoes to make our potatoes salad. We use whole heads of cabbage to chop up for our coleslaw. We don’t cheat.”

Using a larger version of the smoker his father originally designed, Michael uses pecan wood to smoke all Pleasant’s meats. Ribs are usually smoked for about six hours, briquette and pork butt anywhere from ten to twelve.

You can get Pleasant’s barbeque a variety of ways. Grilled chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and sausage sandwiches are very popular, as well as dinner plates like the half chicken or Michael’s favorite, a full or half slabs of ribs. All of which are slathered in Pleasant’s signature sauce.

Pleasant’s uses their own proprietary sauce created over the years by playing with various ingredients until they found what they feel is the best on the Coast. "The secret is in the sauce,” is the slogan of the slightly tangy, slightly sweet sauce that you can purchase to take home by the bottle or gallon jug.

Pleasant’s offers lunch specials during the week with Tuesday bringing meat loaf with mashed potatoes, cabbage, and cornbread. Wednesday features blackened chicken fettuccine with garlic toast, and a tossed salad. Thursday has smothered pork chops with collard greens, rice and gravy, and corn bread, and Friday features fried catfish and shrimp with potato salad, coleslaw or baked beans, with hush puppies.

Be sure to save room for one of Pleasant’s famous homemade pies. You can get sweet potato, pecan, or coconut by the slice, or indulge with full pies to bring some home with you.

Pleasant’s BBQ is located next to Pleasant’s Used & New Tire Center on Government Street, offers indoor & outdoor seating from 11:00am - 7:30pm Tuesday through Saturday. There is plenty of parking available for Cruisers in the lot next to the restaurant, and be sure to inquire about having Pleasant’s cater your next party or event.
